Phil Hill, born in Florida but raised in southern California, wore this helmet during the 1961 Formula One season when he became the only American-born driver, to date, to win the World Drivers' Championship. Hill also won three times each at the Le Mans and Sebring endurance races. Post-retirement, Hill enjoyed a second career writing for Road & Track magazine.
