When the Army Corps of Engineers required the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad to build a new drawbridge over the Rouge River in 1920 -- to accommodate dredging for Ford Motor Company's Rouge plant -- the struggling railroad went to Henry Ford for a loan.
