Stroh's "Beer Run" Advertising Poster, 1987

Summary

Stroh Brewery Company was the biggest and best known of Detroit's many breweries. Founded by German immigrant Bernhard Stroh in 1850, it was the third-largest brewer in the United States by the mid-1980s. That's when Alex the Dog, a beer-fetching Golden Retriever-Irish Setter mix, starred in a popular string of Stroh's television commercials.
