This postcard commemorated the centennial of the birth of Italian aviator, aeronautical engineer, and Arctic explorer Umberto Nobile. Mr. Nobile created and promoted semi-rigid airships during the 1920s and 1930s. He designed and piloted the airship Norge which, on May 12, 1926, made the first confirmed visit to the North Pole.
