Duck Hunting Gun, circa 1850

Summary

Massive shotguns like this were used by market hunters to kill 10 to 40 ducks in a single shot. Even larger versions, call punt guns, were attached directly to a punt boat like a cannon. These guns were so effective that they were eventually outlawed by Federal law in 1918 because they decimated the duck populations.
