New Model Wilkerson Dental Chair, 1899

Summary

Dental patients have only had the opportunity to recline during visits since dental chairs emerged in the 1890s. This S.S. White New Model Wilkerson Chair was the first to allow a patient to lie in a horizontal position. It had a head rest, spittoon, and a foot pedal so the dentist could raise or lower the chair.
