Mechanics Working on a Lincoln Capri Car for La Carrera Panamericana (Mexican Road Race), May 1954

Summary

Not all auto races are run on race tracks. One of the most famous was run from 1950 to 1954 across 2,000 miles of open roads in Mexico. The race had classes for sports cars and stock cars, and specially prepared Lincolns dominated the latter class. Here the car driven by 1954 winner Ray Crawford is serviced by a team of mechanics. The Lincoln team was highly organized and very well equipped but conditions were often primitive, with no proper garage space. Nevertheless, the mechanics have kept things as neat and systematic as possible to assure that nothing is overlooked.
