Excavation Prior to Installation of Historic Engines inside Henry Ford Museum, 1931

Summary

Henry Ford commissioned architect Robert O. Derrick to design the museum building for his Edison Institute. Derrick's plan had to accommodate artifacts of all shapes and sizes, including stationary steam engines set into recesses in the floor like those being worked on here. Construction work on the museum wasn't fully finished until the mid-1930s.
