Ford Motor Company set out to win the challenging 24 Hours of Le Mans with the GT40, a high-performance race car based on plans by British designer by Eric Broadley. Early results were not promising as none of the three GT40 entries finished the 1964 race. After much modification, Ford won Le Mans with GT40 variants in 1966 and 1967.
