Phil Remington served as chief engineer for Carroll Shelby's Shelby American racing team. At the 1967 Sebring 12-hour race, Shelby American fielded the #1 Ford Mark IV driven by Bruce McLaren and Mario Andretti. It was the Mark IV's competition debut, and the McLaren/Andretti car took the checkered flag.
