Henry Ford expanded his operations beyond automobiles in 1920. He formed a subsidiary company to manage his mining and lumbering ventures in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He bought coal mines in Kentucky and West Virginia. He also purchased the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad. Meanwhile, Ford's Model T remained a top seller. Ford Motor Company built 1.4 million cars that year.
