Bennett joined Ford Motor Company in 1918 and, under Mr. Ford's patronage, he became head of the company's service department and one of its most powerful men. Bennett ruled through fear and intimidation. His reign ended when Henry Ford II fired him in 1945 -- the younger Ford's first act as new company president.
